Green With Envy

Previously this summer, I tried out a diagonal tape mani while on my Alaskan cruise (check it out here). I loved the way the diagonal added a little excitement to the nails. After seeing Jen post her Orangey Red Nails, I knew that I had to share the mani I did this past weekend using this same technique.

As Brittany mentioned, we found some great deals at T.J. Maxx. I picked up the Color Club Poptastic Collection. The colors are bright and bold and I love them. I have been wanting to try out the green one, but needed a way to wear it. Since I don't usually wear greens (especially lighter, pastel greens), I decided a diagonal tape mani was just the solution!

I started off the mani with two coats of Color Club - Twiggie. This applied great. The color was opaque in one coat, but I added another for good measure :) The dry time was actually surprisingly fast too. Once I was completely positive Twiggie dried (tape can destroy a nice base color), I added my destick-ified tape pieces. I layered on Wet N' Wild - SaGreena the Teenage Witch. It had just enough shine to even out the pastel base. I was really pleased with the look and have decided that green is a color I will have to give a chance more often.

Sparkly Purple....Yes, Please!

Last night, I was trying to decide if I wanted to keep the same color on my nails or if I wanted to repaint them. I wasn't loving the idea of having the same color on for more than one day, so I got this great idea that I would I would attempt some nail art. Let's just say that this didn't go well.....I don't even think FAIL fully describes how bad my attempt was.

So moving on from the disaster, I decided use Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana. This polish is a gorgeous purple holo. I started with one coat of Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Lacey Lilac. I topped Lacey Lilac with 2 coats of Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana and coat of SV. The WnW is so pretty and layered over the lilac color it was just perfect. The holo glitter in this polish is just lovely to stare at and thats exactly what I did all day.

It was cloudy today, so I took pics inside. This is the most color accurate.

I loved the way the bottle looks in this picture. Tried to get the glitter to show.

I know this is blurry, but I loved that you could see the rainbow colors.

However, there was something else to stare at and that was the movie set that is being built right outside my window. Lots of progress was made today, and you can finally see what was being created. The building beside me has been vacant for a few years, but today it looks like a big Bed, Bath & Beyond. They also brought down some of the cars and building pieces from the set on East 9th. Here are some pics from my 10^th floor office. I can’t wait until they actually start filming, because I should have a front row view :) (Sorry that these are from my ipod.)

Wham... bam...pow! Explosion!

Although many people may have doubts and criticisms of the wonderful city of Cleveland, I can proudly say that I was born and raised in this concrete jungle. Currently, I only live a short drive out of the city and still can enjoy the wonders that downtown Cleveland has to offer. Not only does Cleveland have some really awesome tourist attractions (The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for example), we also have tons of cultural events hosted year round. I'll be the first to admit that I may not have always seen the beauty Cleveland had to offer (kind of like that saying "can't see the forest for the trees"), but as I've grown older I've learned to appreciate this great city of mine.

That being said, this is not a public service announcement to increase tourism to the Cleve, although the city could desperately use your money ;) I'll leave the convincing to this lovely tourism video. The real reason I'm telling you all of this is just to introduce the inspiration behind my current manicure :) Right now, The Avengers is filming in downtown Cleveland (really close to where Brittany works... honest, ask her about it!). Super heroes, super famous people, super tight spandex outfits. Sounds like a success to me.

Jane at Nailside had done a manicure that she called Explosion (check out her post here). I thought this reminded me of comic book speech bubbles and coincided with the filming of The Avengers. I used China Glaze - Frostbite, China Glaze - Turned up Turquoise, and Wet N Wild - Silvivor along with a lot of tape to complete this look.

I wore this mani to school today for our last teacher work day and didn't get a chance to photograph it beforehand. Forgive me for the tip wear... I had a lot of cleaning to do before the students come back!

Cruisin' Blues

So I'm back from Alaska. Luckily, the ship did not go down Titanic-style. I was terrified we'd hit an iceberg and that would be the end. I spent the majority of the week enduring the cold rain that Alaska has to offer (which I instantly missed when I returned to the sweltering apartment!). The scenery was beautiful and I'd love to go back some day.

Due to my family's inability to follow airport security guidelines, I arrived to Alaska without any nail polish remover! My mom was suppose to bring it, but packed it in her carry-on resulting in security stopping us and looking at us like fools. As soon as we docked at the first port, I set off on a mission to find some. Unfortunately in a town of 800 people, the one grocery store didn't have exactly what I wanted, but I was able to get non-acetone remover.

Inspired by the waves and glaciers I saw on the trip, I decided to do a mani incorporating colors from the ocean. I used Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure - Gray by Gray as the base color. Using scissors and tape my grandpa happened to have, I taped off a diagonal and added Wet N Wild - Blue Wants to be a Millionaire.

Overall, I was happy with the outcome. Due to the limited colors of nail polish I had taken with me and the lack of supplies, I think this was a pretty good choice for the majority of my cruise.

Britney & Nicki

So on Tuesday, Jen and I went to the Britney Spears/Nicki Minaj Concert! Yay! It was amazing :) Here are a few pics:

So of course, Jen and I had beautiful nails for the show. For Jen, she used a base coat of Wet n Wild Silvivor and stamped it with ORLY Passion Fruit using plate m78. I love the silver with bright pink on top.

For my nails, I used Jen's China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy. This is a bright pinkish orange color. I was painting my nails inside around 6-7 p.m. and it didn't look that bright, but as soon as we stepped outside it became 20x brighter. Regardless, it was pretty in artificial and natural light. I added Ultra Pro Opal Elegance to the top for a touch of glitter. I loved this look. However, working in a more professional setting, I decided to add the Hard Candy Matte-ly In Love top coat. Unfortunately, I was unable to get a clear picture of it. However, the really cool thing about this nail polish was that in the black lights at the concert it GLOWED! It was so pretty!

Dance (and Stamp) Teal Dawn

Since discovering the wonderful world of nails blogs, the thought of painting my nails a solid color has flown out the window. I really love stamping and can't believe that I was in the dark for so long. There are just so many possibilities! I'm still on a bit of a learning curve (I will blame that on the catholic school I went to that thought wearing nail polish was a crime!) and my clean up definitely needs work. That being said, I was pretty happy with results.

I started off with a base coat topped with two coats of Ulta Salon Formula - Dance Teal Dawn. Since I love sparkles, I added Wet & Wild - Blue Wants to be a Millionaire. The stamp was from Konad plate 63 with Orly - Gum Drop. As always, I finished the job with a coat of SV.

Conservative Cheetah

For my first post, I'm going to show you a new design for me. After receiving all of our stamping plates, I've decided that I'm in love with the animal prints. Animal prints are not my normal forte, but I feel like you can go a little wild on your nails. The zebra print has been used fairly regularly but this is the first appearance for the cheetah print.

I started with 2 coats of Wet n Wild- Private Viewing. This color is lovely, but its very similar to the color of my skin. So I don't think that I will be able to wear it alone. Next I stamped on the cheetah print using Ulta- Smoke Screen. At first, I was nervous that this color combination was going to be strange, but I'm happily surprised by how much I like the 2 colors together. To top everything off, I added Nubar-2010. This was my first nail polish purchased via the Internet. After seeing it on multiple blogs, I just couldn't resist.
