Sweet Nothing

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.  Today I have one of our many Ulta polishes.  These photos are from about a month ago, but I didn't have time to take any nail photos this weekend.  I've been trying to find a nude color that I completely love and I felt like this polish may fill the void.  However, that was not completely the case.  But I did really like the final look of this polish and I feel like it could have some jelly sandwich potential.

I did 3-4 coats of Ulta Sweet Nothing.  The first coat of this polish basically looked like nothing, but I was able to build up some color with the 2-4th coats.


I really like the color combo with my eos lipbalm and Sweet Nothing.  I may need to do a different design using this two colors.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Today we wanted to show you our Valentine's Day manis :)

Ericka's:  She started with 2 coats Zoya Kennedy and then topped it with a coat of Essie Good To Go.  Next, she stamped cheetah print with Orly Liquid Vinyl on all the fingers except the ring fingers and thumbs.  After the stamping dried, she used Ulta Non-Stop Red to add little dots of color to the cheetah print.  On her ring fingers and thumbs, she folded a piece of tape in half and cut out half a heart.  After unfolding it, she stuck it on her nail and used OPI Black Shatter to paint it in.
Brittany's:  I started with 2 coats of Ulta Non-Stop Red on all of my nails.  After adding a coat of Essie Good To Go, I used the same cheetah print stamp with OPI Pink Friday on all my fingers except my ring fingers.  I also added Ulta Glitter Top Coat dots to the dots on my cheetah print.  On my ring finger, I stamped with one of my new Red Angel plates with OPI Alpine Snow.  I also added Ulta Glitter Top Coat to my ring fingers.


Jen's:  She started with 2 coats of Essie Watermelon on all her fingers except the ring fingers.  Next, she used her dotting tool to add 2 dots of Essie Raise Awareness to all her fingers, but on the ring finger she did the opposite, with Essie Raise Awareness on the nail and 2 dots of Essie Watermelon.  She topped everything off with a coat of SV.

Silver Kennedy

So as everyone knows, Zoya had a promotion last month where you could get 2 polishes by just paying shipping.  I decided that I needed to have Kennedy and I don't regret it for one minute :)  I love this color!  I'm not really sure how to describe it, but its lovely.  I wore this out to celebrate my mother's birthday a couple of weeks ago.  We went out to one of her all time favorite restaurants, but before we had a little nail paint party.  It was a wonderful day.

I started with 2 coats of Kennedy and then stamped it with Ulta Scene Steel-er and one of my new Red Angel plates #104.  I LOVE  the way this turned out.  I feel like its the perfect combo.

Lav-ish High Roller

Today's mani is a quick look that I did a few weeks ago. I didn't even get a chance to clean up my nails before I took photos, so forgive me for the sloppiness!

I started off with 2 coats of Ulta - Lav-ish. This is a dusty lavender with gold shimmer in it. It is subtle and shines nicely in the sunlight. I used Ulta - High Roller to stamp with using Red Angle plate 113. High Roller is a great color to stamp with, although I don't love to wear it alone. It applies nicely in one coat and has a pretty good opacity for stamping.



As far as the Red Angle plates, I love the designs, but don't really love the application. Some of them seem really skinny and don't fit my nails well. Others are engraved too deeply and pocket too much polish, which squishes onto my nail when I try to stamp :(

Any suggestions for working with these plates?

Dots Galore

So I had originally attempted to post this mani on Tuesday, but Blogger freaked out or something and deleted all the content in my post.  Since that happened, I am going to show you 2 of my recent manis.  As of you have seen, I have been on a dotting tool kick lately.  And these mani are perfect examples of why I love it so much.

For the 1st one I started with 2 coats of Savvy French Cafe.  I love the look of this nude, but I always question if its the best nude for me.  Anyways, next I added two rows of dots to my ring fingers and thumbs.  I used Ultra Mint Condition and China Glaze First Mate.  I truly loved the color combination and the overall look. 

Next, I did another mani inspired by Instagram.  The original was posted by @beejustice and I believe that it was inspired by a necklace that she owns.

She used gold and a mint green, but I just recently picked up OPI Skull & Glossbones and I really wanted to test it out.  So I started with 2 coats of it, and I'm really loving the color.  Its a great neutral.  Next, I added dots on all of my fingers except for the ring fingers, on which I used my new Red Angel stamping plate.  I chose to use Ulta Chic Peek.  I also really loved the way that this turned out.  The only issue that I had was that the stamped image is significantly lighter than the dots.

Shrimply Devine Zebras

Ever since our very late "Christmas" exchange, I've been eye-ing up Brittany's new Red Angel plates. Although these plates are super sharp and have already sliced a place mat on our table, I'm still eager to test them out. I've used a few of the designs so far and have really liked the outcome.

After swatching our Sally Hansen collection this weekend, I rediscovered my love for Shrimply Devine (part of the Complete Salon Manicure line). This color is a great cream pink that is bright, but not too crazy for work. I used OPI - Skull & Glossbones to stamp with Red Angel plate 113. (Brittany just did an awesome mani using this color which I'm sure she'll be sharing with you soon!) I finished up the look with Ulta - Glitter Top Coat. I picked up this top coat on clearance over Christmas break and I absolutely love it :)

See you in the Bubble Bath on Pink Friday with a Strawberry Marg.

So I think I may have just won for the longest title on our blog :)  But I always like to try to use the nail polishes names in my title.  So today I decided that I wanted to use some of the new polishes I got from the Xmas exchange with Ericka and Jen (yes....we know that it is the middle of January but this adult life can get in the way.)  So on Saturday I got the rest of the Nicki Minja OPI polishes and Jen also bought me OPI Strawberry Margarita and Bubble Bath.  With all these new pretty pinks, I couldn't help myself.

I decided that I wanted to try to do a gradient, and these new polishes were perfect for it.  I started with 2 coats of Bubble Bath.  I was actually excited about this color. Its perfect for making your nails look pretty and natural.  Which as any nail polish addict will agree that a polish that can hide the staining and make naked nails look good is always a good thing.  Next, I sponged on OPI Pink Friday 3/4th of the way up the nail.  Then I sponged OPI Strawberry Margarita on the bottom 1/4th of the nail.  To help blend the colors I waited until the polish was almost dry and then re-sponged on top of each nail.  I felt like the nails also needed a touch of sparkle, so added Ulta Glitter Top Coat.

I really like the way this gradient came out and will definitely try it again with some different colors.

Summertime Blues

With the snow storm that just hit today, I'm definitely feeling the blues for summer. I can't wait for the sunshine and sandals :) With the gray, snowy skies outside, I decided to search my photos for past mani's from the summer that were never shared. I stumbled upon one that I'm shocked I never posted about!

I started this mani with a base coat of Orly - Snowcone (what a fitting name for today!). After topping this with a coat of SV, I used the sponge from a paint brush to dab on a darker blue. Since this was such a long time ago, I honestly can't remember what blue I put on top. This was my first attempt at sponging and I was pleasantly surprised with the results. To finish it off, I stamped with Ulta - Scene Steeler. I've I said before, this is a great silver to have in your collection. Great for stamping, tape mani's, and so much more :)

DS Rock Solid Explosion

For today's post, I've decided to revisit a mani from my past. Back in August (I miss those days), I attempted my very first "explosion" tape mani. Thanks to the wonderful guidance of Jane over at Nailside and her awesome tutorials, I was able to somewhat get the desired effect. After a few more months of practicing my techniques, I decided to try again.One of the main reasons I decided to try this again was that I had already been wearing OPI - DS Extragance and did not want to take it off :) It is such a beautiful color and I love the way it looks in the sun!

Once I decided to try the tape mani, I started prepping by cutting out triangles of tape. I needed 6 triangles per finger. I made sure to un-stick-ify the tape and carefully set it out on the edge of the table. Since by base color was already dried from the day before, I was able to start right away. I placed three triangles on each finger and painted one coat of Ulta - Scene Steeler. I have used this color time and time again. It has great coverage and works great for tape manis or stamping. I helped this layer dry quickly with some SV. For the top layer, I added three new pieces of tape on top of the silver pattern and painted a coat of Orly - Rock Solid. Again, I topped with SV.

Triangles Reconsidered

My mani for today is the result of plans gone wrong. I had intended to create a triangle mani (kinda like Jen did here). However, I was a little impulsive and didn't really think things through when I started so I had to change plans half-way through.

I started off with a base coat of OPI - Alpine Snow. This is by far my favorite white polish. It is opaque in 1 coat and has a great application. I put a coat of Seche Vite to quickly dry this layer. The next part of my design was to add the first triangle with Ulta - Scene Steel-er. I absolutely love this silver. It is a great one-coater that is perfect for stamping and tape manis.

Now, here's where I goofed... I didn't put the tape for the triangle up high enough so there wasn't enough space for the second triangle to be painted on as well. Luckily, Brittany was nearby and suggested I add in green on a diagonal and I went with it. I added in Ulta - The Jungle Look on a diagonal that matched up with the edge of the silver triangle. I just recently picked up this color and can say I'm pretty pleased with it. I finished the look with black nail art pen and a final coat of SV.
Ignore my horrific clean-up... I was feeling lazy.

Fantastic Flakes

Happy New Year to everyone!
It seems like it has been forever since I have had a chance to post a mani on the blog. Since Christmas, I've been out visiting family (many who live without internet) and haven't been able to write anything for you. Thankfully, Brittany has been viligant with keeping you updated :)

Today's mani is one of my favorite that I've done in quite some time. It was so simple, but looked beautiful. I love the way flakes look out in the sun and was happy that I had gotten another flaky polish. Ulta (one of our main sources of polish) was having another great sale when I picked up both of these polishes. I had a coupon for buy one - get one on Ulta cosmetics and picked up Grin & Berry It. (It's getting to a point that I constantly have to look at what we have or check the inventory so we don't get doubles since we own so many Ulta colors.) I also picked up a few other polishes along with Essie - Shine of the Times (this is gorgeous... go buy it :)

For this mani, I put on 2 coats of Grin & Berry It and then topped with Shine of the Times. As usual, I used a quick dry topcoat (Seche Vite). I was lucky enough to catch a few rays of sun to take some photos in (something I'm longing for on a day like today with lake effect snow coming down outside).

In the Spotlight at the Breaking Dawn Premiere

Sorry that we haven't posted in forever, but life has been crazy lately.  As you know, Jen and I went on a little vacation together.  We actually went to Los Angeles and Las Vegas for a 9 day vacation.  It was beyond amazing.  The best part was that we were able to attend The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere.  Lets just say that it was beyond amazing.  All of us are really big fans of the books and the movies, so being able to see the stars up close and getting to watch the movie 4 days early was awesome.

However, I didn't keep up with my duty of taking photos of my nails.  I was able to get a few photos the day of the premiere, but the rest of the days were not as successful.  And the photos that I did take didn't turn out the best because of the red nail polish I was wearing the day before.  But I hope the other pictures will make up for the fact that these nail photos kinda suck.  I used Ulta Concrete and added Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear In the Spotlight (thanks mom!) on my accent nail.

Moody Blues

I would like to dedicate this post to my mother.  During our last visit to Ulta, I found a blue nail polish named Moody Blues and just knew that I had to have it.  The reason why is because my mother loves The Moody Blues.  Now I'm sure most of you are asking "Who are they?"  but you may know a song of theirs without knowing who they are.  One of their big hits was "Night In White Satin". Here it is for your viewing pleasure:



So I decided to do just two coats of this lovely blue creme polish. The color was very pretty, nothing insanely unique, but I still really loved the polish.  However, since I have a couple other blues that are really similar I feel its only fitting to give this polish to my lovely mother.  I know that she will just LOVE it :)


So what is your favorite royal/navy blue creme polish?  Also, I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Army of 1

As Jen had told you, we took a little trip to Ulta and lets just say she was not the only one to get some new polishes.  I was excited because the Ulta polishes were on sale for buy one, get one free.  Ulta Salon polishes are normally priced at $6.00 a bottle.  So I was excited to get the polishes for $3.00.  We have acquired quite a nice collection of Ulta polishes since we have become serious about our nail polish obsession.  And I really like there polishes.  I enjoy the formula, as well as the bottles and brushes that they have.  If you haven't tried Ulta polishes yet, you should really think about giving them a try.

The first polish I decided to test out was Ulta Army of 1.  This polish is a lovely army/camouflage green color with just a hint of shimmer in it.  I did 2 coats of this and topped it with a coat of SV.  I completely loved this color.  I was a little nervous about the color, but it ended up being so pretty. The color is a nice mossy green with a touch of grey.  In some lights it would look more grey then green, but the next second it would be more green.  Either way its lovely.  There is also a little bit of shimmer in this polish.  I could only see it sometimes but that was just fine.  Now for the pictures:

Fall Foliage

Welcome to November! Here in Ohio, that is a welcome to the blistery winds, frigid temperatures, and mountains of snow to come... thank goodness for snow days :)

After finishing off a pink-filled October, it is finally time to share some different colors. Yesterday, Brittany showed you Revlon - Tangerine... an awesome orange that we both wore to celebrate Halloween. Being slightly lazy, I decided to just stamp on top of this color. I gathered up colors that reminded me of fall and leaves on the ground and started stamping with one of our plates with a leaf stencil. I stamped with China Glaze - Vertical Rush and Emerald Fitzgerald, Revlon - Hot for Chocolate, Ulta - High Roller, and Finger Paints - Vintage Velvet.

I tried to make it look like the leaves were blowing across my nails, so I scattered them among my fingers, while layering them on my thumbs. Overall, I really like this mani. It was something I had been thinking of and couldn't wait to try out.

Double Stamp, French Tip & Traffic Jam

So I recently saw on a blog (and of course, I can't find it now) where they did a double stamp.  I really liked the look of it, so I decided to give it a try.  I started with one coat of China Glaze Traffic Jam.  I love this polish. It is a beautiful raspberry creme.  Its lovely and so pretty alone :)  Next I used the cheetah stamp with Ulta Scene Steel-er.  This polish is beyond amazing for stamping and I would highly recommend it for anyone who loves to stamp with silver polish.  Once that was dry I stamped again with Orly Liquid Vinyl.  I finished the whole look with free-handed french tips.  This was the first time that I tried to free hand a french tip, and I'm pretty proud of the way that they turned out.

So as you can see my pictures are not the best.  There really isn't a color accurate photo, but I'm sure that you can find much better swatch of Traffic Jam on other blogs.  Overall, I liked this.  However, it was a little much for me.  I also tested (on paper) with Royal Cloak and actually liked the look of that better.  So maybe next time.  So what do you think?  Do you think there is any other stamp patterns that would look good double stamped?
