Happy Leap Day!

For today's mani I used one of the stamping plates I got for Christmas. There are a few left that I haven't tried out yet and I was really excited by how much I liked this particular pattern because I wasn't especially fond of it on the plate, but once it was on my nails I really enjoyed it.


I used 2 coats of Essie Over The Edge, a layer of Essie Good To Go, then stamped with Finger Paints Easel Come, Easel Go. I'm having a hard time finding a good silver to stamp with, I can't help but feeling like they are all too sheer, I've tried Sally Hansen, OPI and now Finger Paints. Easel Come, Easel Go was ok but still feels a bit thin. Anyway overall I enjoyed this mani.

Animal Prints

Today's post is not so much about one manicure but about the mood I've been in lately, and that is the mood for animal prints. Over the last few days I've had zebras and leopards and giraffes on my nails so for today I'm showing you one of each. Also I should disclaimer this post by saying sorry if the photos aren't great they were all taken on my phone.
The first mani is zebra print. This is done with Konad plate m57. I used 2 coats of China Glaze Pink Voltage (my favorite neon!), stamped with Finger Paints Black Expressionism and then for a bit of glitter used Sally Hansen HD LCD.


For the leopard print I used the same plate (Konad m57). I put 3 layers of Sally Hansen HD Spectrum then stamped with Essie Sexy Divide. Sexy Divide is actually a purple color but in the photos (and to a lesser degree in person) the spots look blue. It was still pretty but I wish the spots would have turned out more purple, perhaps if I hadn't used such a strong glittery base.


The final print I have is a giraffe print, I was really excited about this one because I got some new image plates for Christmas and this was on one of them. Since giraffe is a more abstract print I went for neutral colors that way it was obvious what I was going for. I used Mash plate Mash-20. I put 2 coats of OPI DS Classic as the base, I'm not a big fan of neutrals but this is a lovely gold with a holographic shimmer so its not too boring for me. Then I stamped with Sinful Colors Rich in Heart.

Black Tie Affair

Anyone who knows me knows that I love celebrities, awards shows and celebrity news. So this weekend while watching the Golden Globes I spotted one of my favorite actresses, Zooey Deschanel, wearing a very fun looking manicure. I couldn't see exactly what was going on since it was an just a glimpse during an audience shot but the next day on ENews they were talking about her adorable nails. Heres a picture from her instagram so everyone knows what I'm talking about http://instagr.am/p/hiuYs/ Anyway she had the cutest little tuxedos painted on to her nails. They seemed simple enough so I decided to give it a try.
I started with 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow, one of my favorite whites, then I topped it with 1 coat of Seche Vite and waited patiently for it to dry.


Then I taped off the tips and painted them with Finger Paints Black Expressionism.


I obviously used a dotting tool and the same Finger Paints black to do the buttons. My real issue came with how to paint the bow ties. Initially I tried to use a nail art brush, but I just do not have the artistic skill so I was mostly smearing black all over. Luckily thanks to the layer of SV I was able to remove the black and without taking off the white. I then settled on using the dotting tool to make the bow ties as well. Its hard to describe how it did it, and they didn't turn out perfect so I'm sure there's a better way, but basically I just made and H-shape with the dots and it turned out pretty much how I imagined.



Overall I was pretty impressed with myself! If I was more skilled I could've probably done better but I liked them. As a bonus I've also included a picture of my nails from the other day. I used Finger Paints Black Expressionism again with China Glaze Matte top coat. Then I taped off the tips and used SV which resulted in matte nails with glossy tips. The photo is low quality but I still think the nails look pretty nice.

Motley

So I hope everyone is liking the new look of the blog.  I'm completely loving it :)  Thanks again Joe!

Today I wanted to share with you the new Finger Paints Special Effects Motley nail polish.  I was so excited to find this beautiful flakie polish at Sally's in Sandusky.  I was doing some late Christmas shopping with my mom last Friday and I just had to check to see if they had any in stock...and thankfully they did!  I picked up Motley and Asylum.

I wanted to show off the lovely blue/green flakies, so I started with 2 coats of CHI Late Night Dinner in SoHo.  This color alone was beautiful and I will have to wear it alone sometime.  I then did 2 coats of Motley.  I topped everything off with a coat of Essie Good To Go.

Christmas Trees

So I'm just going to do a quick post for you today.  Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, but I was traveling most of the day and didn't have time to get a post together.

I wanted to share with you the Christmas tree manis that I did this week.  I had seen the tutorials from the amazing Jane at Nailside and just have to give them a try.  The first mani started with 2 coats of Sinful Colors Ruby Ruby on all my fingers with a nice coat of SV to finish it off.  However, on my ring finger I did 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow and then topped that with a coat of SV and then taped off the Christmas tree and I used Sinful Colors Last Chance.  I then added an unknown multi-colored glitter to look like  ornaments/lights and one large sliver glitter as the topper.  I really liked the way this came out.  I definitely need to practice my taping skills, but I still think that they looked good.

The next Christmas tree mani that I did is a little more crazy. I started by creating a jelly sandwich with China Glaze Innocence and an unknown red and green glitter on all my fingers except for the ring finger.  On the accent nail I started with 2 coats of Finger Paints Scenery Greenery and added a layer of unknown green/silver glitter polish.  After topping that with a coat of Gelous and SV I taped off the tree and used OPI Wocka Wocka!  I also added a little bead (I received these with my December Julep Maven box) as the topper.  One last coat of SV sealed it all in. Its a little crazy but I still love it :)

Modern Holly with Vintage Velvet

For this holiday mani I wanted to keep it simple.  I had seen on a nail blog (of course, I can't remember which one...sorry) where they just did three dots on the accent nail.  I really liked the look of this, so I decided that I would use this idea for my holiday mani.

I started with 2 coats of Finger Paints Vintage Velvet.  I love this polish, the color, application, formula are all just great.  I then added three dots to my ring fingers and thumbs.  I did the outer 2 dots with China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint (the leaves) and the middle dot with OPI Wocka Wocka! (the berry).  I then topped it all off with a coat of SV.  I really loved the results and wore this mani for 3 days.
All photos taken inside with a flash.  I wore this during the week, so I don't get to really see the sun :(

Fall Foliage

Welcome to November! Here in Ohio, that is a welcome to the blistery winds, frigid temperatures, and mountains of snow to come... thank goodness for snow days :)

After finishing off a pink-filled October, it is finally time to share some different colors. Yesterday, Brittany showed you Revlon - Tangerine... an awesome orange that we both wore to celebrate Halloween. Being slightly lazy, I decided to just stamp on top of this color. I gathered up colors that reminded me of fall and leaves on the ground and started stamping with one of our plates with a leaf stencil. I stamped with China Glaze - Vertical Rush and Emerald Fitzgerald, Revlon - Hot for Chocolate, Ulta - High Roller, and Finger Paints - Vintage Velvet.

I tried to make it look like the leaves were blowing across my nails, so I scattered them among my fingers, while layering them on my thumbs. Overall, I really like this mani. It was something I had been thinking of and couldn't wait to try out.

Fifth Avenue Left A Message

The mani I'm bringing you today is from a while ago, but it fits with our October theme. I wanted something simple, but with a little bit of pop.

I started off with 2 coats of China Glaze - Fifth Avenue. This polish has a creme finish and is a dusty mauve-y pink. The application was great and was an easy clean-up. I added Finger Paints - Hue Left A Message? to both ring fingers. This color is a pink glitter in a clear base. The glitter matched perfectly and really looked great. I topped off the mani with Orly - Sec' N Dry topcoat.

On a side note, I use to love Seche Vite as a topcoat and still think that it is the best topcoat out there. However, I am trying to find topcoats that are "Big 3-Free." So far I haven't found any that are as wonderful as SV. Do you have any suggestions?

Its Go Go Pink

To continue in our quest of honoring Breast Cancer Awareness Month, I have 2 more pink polishes to show you.  This past weekend was the wedding of a close friend and Ericka and I went back to my hometown to celebrate.  On the way there, I needed to return a dress that I had purchased and later decided to not wear.  Well it just so happens that there was a Sally's 2 doors down, and we just had to stop. I, thankfully, picked up 4 new polishes (3 of which were pink :)

Sally's is currently offering all kinds of polishes that contribute to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  I picked up a double pack of Seche Vite Top Coat and China Glaze Go Go Pink.  I decided to use the Go Go Pink.  I did 3 coats and then added Finger Paints Pink Imagination to my ring fingers.  Go Go Pink is a lovely candy pale pink.  I had a little trouble with the application.  I had some bald spots, but after the second coat I probably would have been fine with 2 coats, but I did 3 for good measure.

I really love both of these colors and I think they worked pretty nicely together too!  I also wanted to mention that I'm so excited because Jen and I have been lucky enough to get some of the new polishes from the OPI Muppets Collection.  So we will be sharing those goodies later...yay!!

Polka Dots!

First let me start by saying Happy First Day of Fall! The weather here in Ohio is raining and chilly, which most people don't enjoy but I am very pleased about, perfect for sweaters and boots. I'm sure by February I'll be sick of the cold but for now its nice, I love when the seasons change. 
The manicure I have today isn't particularly Fall themed but I got a dotting tool yesterday and i couldn't wait to use it.
 Initially when I started painting I was planning to do a rainbow of dots on a white background, but then I saw the black, red and silver sitting together and I decided to go with that instead. I was very happy with the results. 
I started with 2 coat China Glaze 'White on White' and then put a layer of SV on top. I find that when I'm trying to do any nail art its best to put a top coat between the base and the other stuff that way if I mess up I can remove the nail art without taking off the base color. Its saves a lot of time because I tend to mess up a lot. The dots are China Glaze 'Ruby Pumps', Finger Paints 'Easel Come, Easel Go', and ORLY 'Liquid Vinyl'.
Well that's all for me for today. I'm off to have a romantic date night with Brittany. Hope everyone enjoys the change of season this weekend, I unfortunately will be working.

Double Take Blue

Since both Ericka and Jen are busy with work currently, you will just have to endure another post from me :)  So I didn't think that I would be posting 2 days in a row, so I didn't prepare better.  I have another blue polish for you today.  This past weekend I went home and Ericka went nail polish crazy.  I received a text from her on Sunday saying that she had purchased 10 new Ulta polishes.  Lets just say that I was beyond excited!

So I decided to test out Into Astrono-Me?  Its a lovely dusk blue (yes again) but this time it has a teal shimmer in it.  I had a little trouble with the first coat of this polish.  I couldn't get it to go on smoothly and I was having trouble with balding spots.  But the second coat fixed all of the problems.
These were taken inside on Monday night, cause it was yucky outside :(
Funny Story: So the carrot in this photo was due to the fact that I forgot that I had the polish bottle for this color.  I was thinking that it was Jen's polish and that I didn't have the bottle. So after a few photos, Ericka found me and asked what I was doing.  It was definitely a facepalm moment.
Due to my laziness, I decided to keep this polish on for another day.  But to change it up a little, I decided to stamp.  I used another one of Ericka's new polishes called Scene Steel-er.  This polish is a beautiful dark silver foil.  I truly love this polish for stamping and I'm sure you will see it again.  Its an excellent one coater.

Bonus Pic:  Here is a pic of the 2 blues.  Finger Paints Art Thou Blue (pinky and middle fingers) and Ulta Into Astrono-Me? (ring and pointer fingers).  As you can see in the picture, the shimmers make these polish look really different.  But they are both equally beautiful!

Art Thou Blue?

The weather in Ohio has been some beautiful shades of blue and greys.  I'm not sure how much I'm liking the fact that its dark still when I get out of bed, but I think the main reason for that is because I know that means that tax season is just right around the corner. So to match the lovely weather, I decided to wear a lovely blue polish.  I decided to test out Finger Paints Art Thou Blue?


This polish is a lovely dusty blue with a  bit of a hidden sliver shimmer.  I was lucky enough to get some sunshine to photography this beauty. 
I'm just loving this color :)

To add a little something to this I added one coat of Pure Ice Oh Baby!  I completely love this color and I think its extra pretty over blues :)  Sadly, its really challenging to photography this polish's true beauty.  Sometimes in the right light you can see that there is a purplish tint to it. 
In the sunlight the sparkle doesn't show as much. But...
In the shade its lovely.
I wish I had taken a picture of this polish inside, because I think that it might have shown the colors better, but I forgot. Oops!  Anyways, do you have any particular polishes that you love to layer with? Let us know :)

Triangles

Since returning from West Virginia on Monday evening I've worked approximately 40 hours in slightly less than 3 days. I slept for 11 hours strait today and I'm still exhausted so I'm keeping it short today. I did these nails a few weeks ago and have been saving the photos to share.


The triangle design is something I've seen a few places and it looked easy enough, even for someone with limited skills such as myself. After a few weeks of putting it off (tape mani's are super time consuming for me for some reason) I decided to give it a shot, and it was easier than I expected.


I started with a base coat of ORLY 'Its Up To Blue' and put a coat of Finger Paints 'Art You Wondering' on top. I actually wore that for a day or two and when the tips started to wear went for the triangles. I placed 2 pieces of tape to form the triangle then painted the whole remaining area with Rimmel 60 Seconds Vinyl Mirror 'Metallic' and then a layer of Seche Vite. When that dried I moved the two pieces of tape up and painted another triangle in ORLY 'Vinyl'. Then I topped it all off with another coat of SV.


I was pretty pleased with how these nails turned out and how simple the manicure it was. I loved the color combination and i'm looking forward to trying this with other colors.

Oh Baby...It's Vintage Velvet

Today I have a lovely fall color for you, which  is actually kind of perfect because it was nice cool day.  Which is definitely a nice change to the crazy hot days that we have been having lately.  For this mani, I started with 2 coats of Finger Paints Vintage Velvet.  This color is part of Finger Paints new fall collections.  The color of this polish is beautiful dusty bluish green. I don't have any other color like this in my collections, so I was very excited to add it :)

I also picked up Pure Ice - Oh Baby! on Saturday night.  I thought it would be a good topper for this lovely green.  I really loved the results.  What do you think?
So they haven't started filming on the street beside me yet, but as soon as they do I will add pics.

Re-Freshing Little Dots

So last weekend Jen and I went to the new Sally's in our hometown, and I picked up China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint.  I have seen this polish on quite a few blogs, so naturally I decided that I also needed it.  I'm really happy that I picked it up because it is a beautiful pale mint green.  I'm always a little nervous with the color green, but this one is perfect.  I started my mani with a base coat of Seche Clear, and then did 2 coats of Re-Fresh Mint.  This polish is a beautiful creme that was almost completely opaque in one coat, but I did 2 for good measure.  I'm really liking China Glaze's creme formula.  They are very easy to apply and have great coverage.  This polish was also really shiny without a top coat.

To add a little something to this pretty color, I added 3 little dots to my ring fingers and thumbs.  I used my other new polish Finger Paints Vintage Velvet.  This is a mute blue green color.  I used the new dotting tool that my mom let me have (it was from her collection of scrapbooking supplies.)  I haven't done a lot with accent nails, but its really growing on me. I topped everything off with a coat of SV.

I really love this color combination together.  What do you think?

Feeling a Litte Blue & Guest Nails

So, last week I decided that I wanted to test out Finger Paint- Artistic Azure.  I have used this polish a couple of times to stamp with, but I had never actually worn it alone.  I'm so happy that I did.  I applied 2 coats, and topped it off with a top coat of SV.  The color of the polish is amazing.  Its a deep, rich, but still bright blue.  Depending on the light the color would read differently.  Below are inside pictures without a flash.

I also wanted to show you the nails that I did for my mom and her friend last weekend.  They had their 30th high school reunion and wanted to have their nails done.  My mom loves the stamping so I stamped both ladies' nails.  Here are the results:
Used Ulta Salon Formula Encore Pink as the base (2 Coats) & Concrete Evidence for the stamped imagine
Used Sinful Colors Love Nails as the base (3 coats- this is a very sheer polish) & Finger Paints Artistic Azure for  the all over stamp imagine.  We also added silver flowers to each nail using Wet n Wild Silvivor.
