Fowl Play on Plum Noir

Sorry to be posting again, but Ericka is visiting family and Jen is working like crazy....therefore, you are stuck with me.  After getting back from Florida I wanted to try some of my new polishes.  I picked up these 2 Orly polishes sometime in this month (I can't remember...oops!)  So on Tuesday I wore Orly Plum Noir.  I did 2 coats with a top coat of SV.  I really liked this polish.  It was a beautiful creme plum and the application was great.

So last I decided that I wasn't in the mood to take out my nail polish so I just decided to paint over it :)  So I thought Orly Fowl Play was the perfect polish to use on top of Plum Noir.  And I was crazy happy with the results.  I'm sure you have better photos of this polish, but I had to share because it really is stunning.  I did two coats of Fowl Play and topped it with Essie's Go to Go (trying something new).

Is it bad to recycle my manis?  I hope not.

Essie Mochacino

So it seems like everyone is ready for a little break from all the color and nail art that the holidays require.  And I'm no exception :)  I actually wore this mani on Christmas day, because I wasn't able to bring a ton of polishes with me, and I wanted something that would just be quick and simple.  I decided that my new Essie Mochacino would fit the bill perfectly.

I did two quick coats and topped it off with a coat of SV.  I have just recently started purchasing Essie and so far I really like them.  The application has been great with all of them so far, and the bottle and brushes are great.  This polish is a nice nude/beige/tan color with silverish shimmer.  I really liked the color and after all the reds that I had been wearing it was definitely refreshing.  Unfortunately, I did have a little staining from Wocka Wocka! which I wore the day before, but I say that's just because I didn't have all my supplies with me.

Here is a picture of the sharks teeth that I found on the beach on Monday.  Finding shark teeth at the beach is one of my favorite parts of visiting my Grandparents.  We go there at least one a year and we always find time to hunt for sharks teeth.
I love the little one.  So cute!!!
Are you all ready for some nude/plain colors?

Sparkle & Sunshine

So sadly this morning I'm back in Ohio after having a wonderful time with my family down in Florida.  Luckily, I was able to wear 2 of my new nail polishes while I was down there.  The first one that I have for you is OPI DS Reserve. This polish is beautiful, just like all of the designer series are. The holographic glitter in the one was just for a sunny day at the beach. I just simply applied two coats and topped it off with a coat of SV and then I was off to spend a little time at the beach.

Added Bonus:  Here is a picture from the beach!  I had such wonderful weather while I was there, and I desperately want to go back :)

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday :)

One Last Christmas Mani

Let me start by saying Merry Christmas I hope everyone who celebrates had an amazing day filled with happiness and family and of course lots of good gifts. I unfortunately am at work, the joys of nursing :) I did have an amazing Christmas eve and Christmas morning though and one of the benefits of my job is brightening the day of sick people who didn't get to spend the day with their families. I am blessed all around.
Today I'm sharing with you the Mani I had on yesterday and today. I finally found a festive look that I liked. I went for basic red on 4 of my fingers, I tried others but in the end I went with OPI's Woka Woka, this is part of the Muppet collection and one of my faves. It's a gorgeous red that is so shiny especially with a coat of SV on top. For the accent nail I went with Sally Hansen extreme wear Emerald City. I also tested a few greens (I don't own many) and I found that this color is a very festive green not too bright or too dark. I don't know if I would wear it outside of Christmas but for this it worked perfect. I stamped with the Konad Christmas stamp, I don't know the number sorry! I used OPI DS Radiance for the silver on the stamp. I was very pleased (finally!) with this holiday look!
Once again Merry Christmas and thanks so much for reading! Also please excuse any errors or inconsistencies in this post I typed it on my iPhone :)

Christmas Trees

So I'm just going to do a quick post for you today.  Sorry for the lack of post yesterday, but I was traveling most of the day and didn't have time to get a post together.

I wanted to share with you the Christmas tree manis that I did this week.  I had seen the tutorials from the amazing Jane at Nailside and just have to give them a try.  The first mani started with 2 coats of Sinful Colors Ruby Ruby on all my fingers with a nice coat of SV to finish it off.  However, on my ring finger I did 2 coats of OPI Alpine Snow and then topped that with a coat of SV and then taped off the Christmas tree and I used Sinful Colors Last Chance.  I then added an unknown multi-colored glitter to look like  ornaments/lights and one large sliver glitter as the topper.  I really liked the way this came out.  I definitely need to practice my taping skills, but I still think that they looked good.
That's snow is the background :)

This photo shows Ruby Ruby the most accurately.
The next Christmas tree mani that I did is a little more crazy. I started by creating a jelly sandwich with China Glaze Innocence and an unknown red and green glitter on all my fingers except for the ring finger.  On the accent nail I started with 2 coats of Finger Paints Scenery Greenery and added a layer of unknown green/silver glitter polish.  After topping that with a coat of Gelous and SV I taped off the tree and used OPI Wocka Wocka!  I also added a little bead (I received these with my December Julep Maven box) as the topper.  One last coat of SV sealed it all in. Its a little crazy but I still love it :)
Sorry about the lighting.  I'm at my grandparents and I didn't get a picture in the sunshine (I was napping :) )

I hope everyone is enjoy this holiday season!!!

Merry Christmas!!!

P.S. As you can see I was unable to tag my photos. Sorry!

Holiday Disapointment

All this week I've been wearing various Christmas themed manis and I'll be honest I haven't really been satisfied by any of them. Whether its the colors I'm choosing or the stamps and designs I'm trying to use I've just had a week of holiday disappointments. Today's look is no different. I don't hate it and I don't love it.
Ignore my weird pinky nail I broke it right before I took the pics!
A couple of months ago I got my hands on the entire OPI Muppets collection, I was thrilled because it was a few weeks before it hit stores. Despite my excitement I have yet to wear a few of these colors. So I decided today to try out two of the glitters, a red micro glitter with large red and silver hex glitters in clear base called 'Gettin Miss Piggy With It' and another clear base with green micro glitters and silver hex glitters. Since the glitters are so sheer I decided to add a little shine by putting them over a silver foil base, OPI DS Radiance.

1 Coat DS Radiance, 2 Coats 'Gettin Miss Piggy With It', 2 Coats 'Fresh Frog of Bel Air', Topped with SV

I think up close this mani is very pretty but from a distance it is very shiny and with the mixed green and red it reflects a little brown-ish. I just don't love it. Oh well I suppose I'll try again tomorrow!

Modern Holly with Vintage Velvet

For this holiday mani I wanted to keep it simple.  I had seen on a nail blog (of course, I can't remember which one...sorry) where they just did three dots on the accent nail.  I really liked the look of this, so I decided that I would use this idea for my holiday mani.

I started with 2 coats of Finger Paints Vintage Velvet.  I love this polish, the color, application, formula are all just great.  I then added three dots to my ring fingers and thumbs.  I did the outer 2 dots with China Glaze Re-Fresh Mint (the leaves) and the middle dot with OPI Wocka Wocka! (the berry).  I then topped it all off with a coat of SV.  I really loved the results and wore this mani for 3 days.
All photos taken inside with a flash.  I wore this during the week, so I don't get to really see the sun :(

What do you think?  Is it festive enough?

Candy Cane Mani

Happy Holidays!
This past weekend, I was inspired to attempt a candy cane design. I must say that I'm pretty impressed with myself :) I successfully transferred an idea from my brain to my nails! Hooray!

I started off this mani with 2 coats of a no-name polish from Claire's. It is a white shimmer glitter that comes in a flower-shaped bottle. I probably could have used a base coat in white or pale pink, but I was satisified with the slight VNL that still showed through. Once this completely dried with a layer of SV, I cut out strips of tape in varying sizes. I placed the strips on my nails and covered with Barielle - Coco Bar. I had picked up this color from Ulta on the discount rack and it is a great Christmas shade. As usual, I added a second coat of SV to seal in the design.

Unlike most manis, I'm still wearing this 2 days later! I just can't seem to take it off. I love the way it turned out, and it makes me feel so festive :)

These photos really help it feel like Christmas with a snowy background! Happy Holidays :)

Updated Nail Polish Inventory

So yesterday, Ericka and I decided that it was finally time to update our nail polish spreadsheet and re-arrange our collection.  Lets just say that it was a very time consuming process.  We have purchased more than 100 polishes since the last time we updated the list...wow!

Here is a link to our spreadsheet.  If you see any polishes you would like for us to swatch, please feel free to leave a comment and let us know.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend!  We will be sharing our Christmas manicures with you this week, so don't forget to stop by tomorrow for the 1st one :)

Pink Zebra

Today's mani is something I've been thinking about doing for a long time. First because I love animal prints lately, zebra especially, and I love pink and second because the pattern and colors I used match my iphone cover perfectly and little things like that make me happy! For colors I used 2 coats OPI Alpine Snow, it was opaque and smooth with one coat but I just like to use 2, then I used a coat of SV for quick dry. I stamped with ORLY Oh Cabana Boy using Konad plate M57, then put one final layer of Seche Vite.

2 Coats Alpine Snow, stamped with ORLY Oh Cabana Boy
I love stamping my nails, once you get the hang of it it doesn't take very long and always looks nice. My nails are in terrible shape right now, partially because I started biting them again (bad me!) so they are short and partially because my winter skin is dry and my cuticles look awful. Despite the bad shape my nails are in I got so many compliments on this mani when I wore it Christmas shopping! It completely made my day and of course I felt the need to explain the stamping process to everyone who mentioned my nails! I definitely recommend it to anyone who has never tried it, the stamps are fairly inexpensive on Amazon and its so simple!

In florescent light, with working nights and the limited wintertime daylight its hard to get good lighting for pics.

Afterhours with Caitlin

I'm back from my dad's house and I wanted to share with you the mani that my little brother (he is 7) helped me pick.  After spending about 5 hours....straight...playing Super Mario Brothers, I was finally able to convince my brother to let me repaint my nails.  I had only brought 5 polishes with me, so the selection was limited, but I would say that he did pretty good.

I started off with a layer of Zoya Caitlin.  I was hoping this would help with the removal process, but no such luck!  But I really loved the color of the polish and will definitely have to wear it again alone.  Next I topped it off with one coat of Urban Outfitters Afterhours on all my fingers except for my ring fingers, which I added a second layer for more coverage.  I had picked up this lovely glitter while out in LA, and I'm so happy that I did.  The polish is an amazing mix of silver and pale pink holographic glitter.  Anything this sparkly makes me happy!

Look at that SPARKLE!!!

I'm extremely happy with my first Urban Outfitters nail polish.  Do you have a favorite?  Don't you just love sparkle....I really do!

P.S. I'm so excited to show you the mani I'm wearing today....I thought that I had completely ruined it, but I was able to pull out a win...well at least I think it is :)

Christmas Sparkles

Today I'm bringing you a holiday inspired mani. With my classroom and apartment both decorated for Christmas, I'm feeling jolly. I wanted red with sparkles :)
I decided to go with OPI - Red Hot Ayers Rock. I topped it with Sinful Colors - Pearl Harbor. As usual, the OPI went on great. It was opaque in one coat and dried evenly. After using a coat of SV, I added the sparkles for something a little extra.

What is your holiday mani?

Getting short with Neeka

So I have just a short post for you today.  I'm getting ready to go visit my father in upstate New York this weekend for his 50th birthday!  He is becoming such an old man....just kidding.  I love him and Happy Birthday Dad!

Anyways, I wanted to share with you my first Zoya nail polish.  I got it when I saw that Nailed It (check out her blog....lots of amazing stuff) had written a post about how they were having a deal, get two free polishes and only pay shipping.  I was extremely happy and went to pick out my colors asap.  The first one I tested out is Neeka.  This polish is a lovely dusty greyish purple with a gold shimmer.  I was definitely surprised by Zoya's bottles.  They are very cute and tiny.  I love tiny products!  And I'm really liking the brush as well.

Look how short my nails were!  I trimmed them down before our trip, just to be pre-cautious about them breaking while on the vacation.  And of course, I still broke 3 nails the first night of the trip.  I blame the weather change :)

So the photos don't really show the gold shimmer very well, it actually looks a little more silver.  But that's because it is now pretty much...I don't want to say it....winter in lovely Ohio!  Boo!  This means that I'm generally not able to be in the sun during the work week, so bathroom photos are going to have to work.  Sorry.

Well I hope everyone else has a wonderful and safe weekend!

Back With A Sparkle

As I sat down to write this post this morning I realized its been more than a month since I've posted anything... real life has certainly gotten in my way! Good thing I have two wonderful partners who have been keeping up :) For today post I used one of my favorite polishes, OPI DS Extravagance. I love the entire Designer Series by OPI this collection has tons of beautiful dynamic glitters and holos. Extravagance is no different, it is a deep purple with tons of silver shimmer and just a touch of holographic sparkle.

2 Coats DS Extravagance topped with SV
My only difficulty with this gorgeous polish is getting a good photo. In person it looks beautiful in any light but I found on the camera it was best in sunlight, it really made the holo nature of the polish show up.

In the sunlight... ignore how short my index finger nail is :)

That's all I have for today... hopefully it will be less than a month before I post again!

A Glitter Jelly for a Special Celebration

Happy Birthday Ericka!!!!

So today is Ericka's 25th birthday (geeze, you are getting old...just kidding!)  And I wanted to share this special day with everyone.

This weekend we started the celebration with a 'Surprise' birthday party for Ericka.  She wasn't super surprised, but I think she still had a good time.  Of course, I had to make sure that my nails looked lovely for the party so I decided to use some of my new polishes.

A couple of weeks ago, I had bought gift certificates for Bloom.com and finally put an order in last monday.  I got 5 new polishes from them.  The company offers a variety of different brands for fairly good prices.  They ended up being a pretty good deal because I got the gift certificates at a discounted rate and I got free shipping and handling (which was fast, because I got them on Friday).  I still have one more gift certificate to use, but I think I'm going to hold off for a little while :)

The polish that I choice from the new ones was Megan Miller Collection Framboise.  This is a lovely pinkish red (I don't know how to describe it...sorry).  I was so excited to see that this was a lovely jelly polish and I knew that I had to make a jelly sandwich with it.  I decided to add a coat of OPI Rainbow Connection.  I topped it off with a coat of SV.  I really love the way that it ended up turning out, all sparkly and pretty.

I hope everyone else had a lovely weekend.  We will be out celebrating Erick's birthday at The Cheesecake Factory (I'm so excited), so I can't promise that we will be posting on Tuesday.
